Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.
The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.”  The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.  Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time.  In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment.  When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
Doctors of chiropractic may assess patients through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate. Chiropractors will readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patient’s condition, or the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other members of the health care team

New!!! - Instrument-Assisted Connective Tissue Therapy - ConnecTX

ConnecTX is the latest form of instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization (IASTM).  The treatment uses a hand-held instrument to enable our doctors to detect and treat scar tissue and fascial restrictions afflicting soft tissue.  Treatment includes the introduction of micro-trauma to the affected area to break down scar tissue and adhesions and to trigger a local inflammatory response which, in turn, initiates the reabsorption of scar tissue facilitating the healing process.  Patients will ultimately experience enhanced ranges of motion and increased flexibility.

Trauma or malfunction of fascia can create an environment of poor cellular efficiency, necrosis, disease, pain and dysfunction throughout the body, profoundly influencing cellular health and the immune system.  ConnecTX Therapy reduces treatment time, fosters rehabilitation and recovery, obviates the need for anti-inflammatory medications, resolves chronic conditions previously thought to be permanent and enables patients’ reengagement in daily activities.

The instrument itself is specially designed to fit the contours of the body, aiding in diagnosis and effectively treating pain and its causes.  Conditions most commonly treated with ConnecTX Therapy include sprain/strains, nerve entrapments, myofascial trigger points, over-use syndromes, scar tissue adhesions and tendonopathies.

LCT-1000® Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy™ is an innovative, scientifically based, therapeutic modality. This new technology offers advanced pain relief and expedited healing times through a process known as photobiostimulation.

Laser Therapy does not require the use of drugs or surgery, and there are no known side effects or risks that may occur with other forms of treatment. In addition, it can often achieve results faster than other treatment modalities. During the treatment the patient will feel a deep soothing warmth. This pleasant sensation reassures the patient that the laser is stimulating cellular activity.

The LCT-1000® delivers, deep, penetrating, photonic energy to bring about profound physiological changes. ATP (Adenosine-triphosphate) production is increased, inflammation and pain reduced and circulation increased at the site of injury. These changes in cellular chemistry are triggered by the LCT-1000® making it a true healing modality.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is ideal for:

At Santiago Chiropractic Associates, we recognize that structural problems with your body may actually begin in your foundation – with your feet!

Some of the more common problems we see are uneven hips, a high shoulder, head tilt and possible knee problems that result from problems in your feet!

We have the ability to create molds of your feet that are used to make custom-fitted orthotics. These special shoe inserts correct postural or structural imbalances in your body and often relieve aches and pains that occur elsewhere in the body as a result.

Massage Therapy

We want you to de-stress and experience complete relaxation here at Santiago Chiropractic Associates. To complement our chiropractic services and to help you give yourself the attention you deserve, Santiago Chiropractic Services offers massage therapy, performed by a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT).

Our menu of massage therapy services includes:

  • Swedish Massage – focuses on soft tissue and muscle tension, induces relaxation and increases blood flow throughout the body.

  • Pregnancy Massage – helps relieve the aches and pains associated with pregnancy, eases fatigue and boosts the expectant mother’s energy level!

  • Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy – Great for athletes, this therapy locates muscles that are overworked and “releases” the knots or “triggers” that cause pain and discomfort and helps return muscles to their normal  healthy state.

  • Deep Tissue Massage – Uses slow, deep and deliberate strokes to release deep-rooted muscle tension that needs to be unlocked. Posture, muscle tension and flexibility are noticeably improved!

  • 30-Minute Massage Treatment – Generalized message, on a specific area of tension, such as the neck, shoulders, back or legs.

Nutritional and Supplement Counseling

Healthy eating habits are an important element in living the chiropractic lifestyle. Fast food, fried food, trans. fats, sugar and caffeine are foods that introduce toxins to your body and keep you from functioning at a peak performance level. Dr. Santiago has an advanced degree in clinical nutrition and Dr. Scarano’s training as a Certified Chiropractic Wellness Practitioner included extensive evidence based nutritional guidance for supporting patient lifestyle changes. Together, they can work with you to develop a specific plan to help you get and stay on track with healthy food choices and the appropriate supplements you may need to add to you diet. Like our Chiropractic treatment plans, each plan is tailored to meet your specific needs and dietary goals.

Santiago Chiropractic Associates also offers a wide variety of supplements available for purchase directly through our office. To ensure that you are taking high quality supplements that are best for your individual needs, be sure to discuss your current nutritional profile with one of the doctors. Purchases through our office may be a qualified expense under your flexible spending account or a medical expense tax write off.

Strength and Conditioning

For those athletes who want enhanced performance in their sport, Santiago Chiropractic Associates offers strength and conditioning programs tailored to meet each athlete’s specific needs or goals.

Each athlete is tested in a sport-specific evaluation session.  An individual strength and conditioning program is designed and implemented, with on-site monitoring to determine whether specific measurable goals and indicators have been achieved.

Athletes are also coached regarding proper nutrition and injury prevention techniques, to keep them safe and healthy, both on and off the playing field.

MicroFit Fitness & Wellness Assessment Program

The MicroFit FAS-2 System is an FDA-registered medical device used for the measurement of weight, body fat, blood pressure, heart rate, flexibility, strength and cardiovascular health. MicroFit Systems provide medical grade, interactive fitness assessments which can be incorporated into your initial examination or conducted at any point during your treatment to help us track and measure progress toward your health and fitness goals. In order to provide you with the most accurate results when participating in the MicroFit tests please follow the Pre-test guidelines. Your results can be affected by your immediate sleeping, eating and exercise actions.

How It Works:

  • Stop by or call the office to schedule an appointment. The assessment usually will take about 45 minutes and will cost between $50-$99 unless otherwise discounted.
  • Dress in athletic clothing. Shorts, a short sleeved T-shirt and sneakers are best. Women should wear a sports bra as well.
  • Abstain from food, tobacco, alcohol and caffeine for at least 3 hours prior to testing.
  • Abstain from vigorous physical exercise for at least 4 hours prior to testing. It is best if the MicroFit test is the first exercise you perform for the day.
  • Try not to schedule your MicroFit test immediately after a major change from your daily routine such as a long business trip, sickness or several nights of less than normal sleep.
  • As you go through the program, we will explain the significance of each step.
  • When finished, you will be given a Fitness Profile to take home with you along with several pages of in-depth explanations.
  • Based on your results, we will recommend exercise and nutritional steps you may take for improving your fitness score.

OptoJump Next: Gait & Functional/Biomechanical Evaluations

  • Motivate athletes by giving them tangible proof of the progress made through their chiropractic treatment and/or training
If you are interested in learning more about OptoJump Next, please visit the website or ask one of the doctors during your next appointment for a demonstration of the equipment.

Golf Swing & Biomechanical Evaluations

There are four fundamental causes of golf injuries. In the past, a sports chiropractor could help you to identify three of them, including: Poor posture, a lack of flexibility and/or a lack of balanced functioning muscles. The fourth cause of injury is poor swing mechanics and now – with the help of cutting edge-technology, Santiago Chiropractic Associates is able to help you stay at the forefront of the very competitive golf performance industry by addressing this final component as well.

At Santiago Chiropractic we will use an all-in-one video capture, analysis, and training system that allows both golf & medical professionals to easily measure swing efficiency and movement patterns and allows users to compare swing patterns to the world’s top PGA and LPGA players.

If you or someone you know is interested in identifying and fixing the true problems in their swing, please ask one of the doctors during your next appointment for a demonstration of the equipment.  Santiago Chiropractic Associates also has an established network of certified golf professionals that can help you increase distance, improve accuracy and most importantly, lower your scores.

Webster Technique for Pregnant Women

Due to female adaptations from increases of hormones, weight gain and postural adaptations, pregnant mothers have a greater chance of sacral subluxation and neuro-biomechanical imbalance than the general population. The resulting tensions and their aberrant effect on the uterus may cause pain and/or prevent the baby from comfortably assuming the best possible position for birth.

The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and treatment method developed to improve a woman’s level of comfort during pregnancy and restore physiological function in preparation for a safer, easier birth. The goal of this technique is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/SI joint dysfunction and in doing so, improve neuro-biomechanical function, balance in the pelvis and facilitate optimal fetal position

The Webster Technique can be very effective late in pregnancy when a woman is experiencing pain, however it is recommended that woman start a course of treatment early in pregnancy to prevent any symptoms that may come along later. This technique is a safe and gentle approach to achieve function and balance in the pregnant mother’s pelvis. If you have further questions about the use of the Webster Technique, please contact our office or visit the website below.
